Last year I did a rough cover illustration for Robin Lafevers' book Grave
Mercy. It didn't make the cover, but I had fun doing it. The book is
pretty good too. It's about assassins raised in a sketchy convent. Lots
of political intrigue and sneaking about. The covergirl here is Ismae. I hear the second book, Dark Triumph is coming
out soon, starring another assassin named Sybella.
Dammit Phroilan.. this is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks, man!
ReplyDeleteYeah, really nice and moody
ReplyDeleteThe colours and the character, her clothing... this is really pleasing too look at.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good read. And awesome painting too. I really like the atmosphere of it
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kate.
DeleteBtw, great rendering on your creatures. Your work reminds me of a strange brew of Terryl Whitlatch and Wayne Barlowe. :)
Love this!! It should have been the cover. BTW, the book is pretty great, too.
DeleteI went and looked up what the final cover ended up being and it's a photo. Seriously? They picked a photo over this? Life is unfair D:
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's just YA nowadays. Gone are the days when illustrated covers were the norm. :(
DeleteI have completely fallen in love with Grave Mercy. From the plot, to the characters, to the romance and even the tragic and heart-breaking moments. It's action-packed, super exciting and thrilling. Grave Mercy is a story filled with adventure, betrayals and lies of untrustworthy people, but it's also about standing up for what is right and true. Grave Mercy is truly sensational.''
ReplyDeleteJust finished reading the novel. What a fascinating period in French history and the novel details it nicely. Very well written, couldn't put it down. Way to go, Robin!
