7 years?? That flew by way too fast.

Something I did a couple years ago riffing on an even older thing I did from my Diablo 3 days.

  1. The South Korean Diablo III launch was such a mess. The server issues were so bad that the government had to step in — that's when you know it's serious. The Fair Trade Commission investigation and the consumer protection laws forcing refunds was a huge deal. Blizzard had to offer full refunds to players under level 40, plus a free 30-day trial of StarCraft II. That's a pretty significant concession.

It's interesting to see how Blizzard handled this compared to other regions. The fact that almost two-thirds of Asian traffic came from South Korea but they still misjudged the server capacity shows how badly they underestimated demand.

The free StarCraft II trial was a nice gesture, but it must have felt like a consolation prize for players who just wanted to play the game they'd been waiting over a decade for.

Sometimes in gaming — whether it's dealing with server issues or tackling a difficult challenge — you just want to skip the headaches and get straight to the good parts. Check out wowvendor Diablo 4 boosting service — clean, simple, and no server crashes required.

Thanks for sharing this piece of gaming history. 🗡️🌏
